Corporate daycare in Pakistan: a planning guide for employers

An employer-supported daycare is a continuing care service. A useful plan starts with working families and ends with clear responsibility for everyday delivery. This guide helps HR, administration and leadership teams frame that decision.

1. Understand the demand before defining capacity

Ask employees about children’s ages, expected use, shifts and barriers to participation. Separate expressed interest from likely enrolment. Consider employees returning from parental leave and parents whose hours differ from the main office day. Use aggregated findings in management discussions; individual family details do not belong in public reports.

2. Compare operating models

Onsite provision can bring care close to parents but requires suitable premises and dependable operations. Offsite partnerships or other childcare support may suit some workforces. Compare accessibility, hours, affordability, quality oversight and management responsibility rather than assuming one model fits every employer.

3. Budget for the service, not only the room

Opening costs and recurring costs answer different questions. Space preparation and equipment are only part of the decision. Staffing, supervision, learning materials, upkeep, management and quality review continue after launch. Ask proposals to make assumptions explicit so that different scopes can be compared fairly.

4. Connect childcare with the workplace

Bring HR, facilities, security and health and safety into planning early. The centre needs an operating relationship with the host site. Work patterns, access, building changes and continuity arrangements should be part of the discussion before opening.

5. Select a partner and measure the service

Review relevant operating experience and accountability, then use the HR questions linked below to guide discussion. After opening, examine service reliability, parent feedback, staff continuity and improvement actions alongside utilization. Avoid claiming financial returns until your organization has credible before-and-after data.
